Japan would be a winner if it called a halt to whaling: "Whaling remains a deeply unprofitable activity, one that only continues thanks to generous government subsidies. Industrial whaling in Japan is a post-World War II phenomenon, so claims that it is part of a deep cultural tradition are baseless."
